Public Diplomacy Essay Contest

KF-SMU Public Diplomacy Essay Contest is co-organized by Sookmyung Women’s University’s School of Global Service and Graduate School of TESOL and International Studies, and sponsored by the Korea Foundation.

A hot topic of the 21st century, public diplomacy is diplomacy led by private sectors. In other words, the public engage in external activities for the purpose of the nation’s diplomatic goals. This public diplomatic essay contest is aimed to spread public diplomacy consciousness to students. In this competition, public diplomacy essays will be presented to review the current status of public diplomacy in Korea, point out problems, and present novel new directions.

The best of the submitted essays will be selected and awarded. The opportunity to present and review the abstracts before the final submission will be given. Sookmyung Women's University undergraduate and graduate students are invited to enter their original written essay.

<Public Diplomacy Essay Contest>

Eligibility: Sookmyung Women's University Undergraduate and Graduate Students, Individual entries only

Topic: Analysis and Direction of Public Diplomacy in Korea. Not comprehensive but specific examples. (Ex. Analyze sports public diplomacy in Korea, point out the problems, and present improvement measures)

Format: Within 10 pages in A4 format including an introduction, main idea, and conclusion

Submission: Through the School of Global Service office email (globalservice@sookmyung.ac.kr)

Deadline: Monday, June 3rd at 5 pm

Judgement: Monday, June 10th

Awards Ceremony: Friday, June 14th 

Prizes: 1st 500,000 KRW

     2nd 300,000 KRW

     3rd 200,000 KRW

     Honorable Mention 100,000 KRW (5 entries)

<Public Diplomacy Essay Summary Presentation>

Content: A brief 10 minute presentation. Essay abstract presentation followed by directions and comments from specialists (A maximum of 10 applicants will present, if more apply, 10 will be selected)

Date and Time: Friday, May 10th from 2 pm to 4 pm

Submission: Due Wednesday, May 8th, 5 pm, Submit a PPT format presentation to the School of Global Service office email (globalservice@sookmyung.ac.kr)

Presenters will be given 50,000 KRW
